About Totum Online
Totum Online (Totum) is a database in which you can create a corporate application with complex logic. It is designed for non-programmers — that is, for those who are not professional developers but have a need to build their own automation. It's a kind of hybrid between a database and a spreadsheet, with the ability to program logic using short codes in a simple, specialized language. Totum is most effective for internal development in small companies, where it can reduce development and maintenance costs to the level of a median tester's salary — or even half of that, depending on the complexity of the project.
The system's creator defines its logic — essentially crafting a well-prepared technical specification: which blocks are needed, what data each block contains, how they are interconnected, what is transferred where, what is displayed in reports, and so on. These components are connected using small, situational code snippets to form the final solution. AI can write the code at the developer's request, but the code is understandable even without being a professional programmer — which is critical for systems that deal with money, material resources, or lives. Developing a system on Totum was already fairly simple, but with the integration of AI, it has become even easier and faster.
Totum Online key benefits:
- Ready-made interface for both desktop and mobile, without the need for frontend development.
- A small proprietary language (“totum-code”): formulas and logic written in just a few lines, no SQL knowledge required.
- Process automation: actions, API integrations, triggers, logging, roles, and access rights.
- Self-hosting available: MIT-licensed open-source version, as well as a paid PRO version.
Totum Online PRO version features
- Advanced search across the entire schema with permission-aware integration.
- File and document storage with previews, versioning, and role-based access; supports online editing.
- Two-way API integrations: you can both call external APIs from totum-code and expose your own API.
- Templates for invoices, contracts, mass Excel processing, and more through the “Services” system.
- Totum AI: an assistant that generates totum-code, answers questions about the documentation, and works on GPT‑4.
Totum Online deal for:
- production management, accounting, CRM, logistics;
- prototyping and migrating Excel-based accounting to a database;
- building dashboards, forms, integrations, and reports inside a company.
